Kufic. This inscription was first brought to notice by Dr. ʿAbdullāh Maṣlaḥ al-Thumāly on Twitter.[1]
Contents
The translation of the inscription is given below:
- I,
- Al-Mughīra ibn
- ʿUmar, ask
- God for Paradise as a place,
- and Angels
- as ambassadors, and the Prophet
- as the Companion, and Believers
- as friends. Amen, Lord
- of the Worlds. And he wrote (this)
- in the year two and
- ninety.
Comments
Supplications for forgiveness and granting of Paradise in the early Islamic inscriptions are very common. This is a more elaborate one.
