The date is deduced from the fact that Yaḥya b. al-Ḥakam died c. 80 AH / 699-700 CE.

Kufic script.
Contents
The translation of the inscription is:
- May my Lord have mercy on
- Yaḥya b. al-Ḥakam
- and forgive him.
Comments
Moshe Sharon, who published this inscription, inclines to the view that the person mentioned in this inscription is Yaḥya b. al-Ḥakam, uncle of the Umayyad caliph ʿAbd al-Malik, who was involved in the project of levelling ʿAqabah.
