Arab-Sassanian coin issued by Ziyād ibn Abī Sufyān, governor of al-Basra, frozen in 48 AH.

48 AH / 668-669 CE.

Obverse field: Typical late Arab-Sassanian bust. Obverse margin: bism Allāh rabbī ("In the name of God, my Lord").

Reverse field: Typical Arab-Sassanian fire-altar with attendants with mint (Meshan).

Comments

Weight = 2.53 gms (remaining).

These are the issues of Ziyād ibn Abī Sufyān, governor of al-Baṣra, before he was granted the governorship of al-Kufa. Coins bearing the legend bism Allāh rabbī came from various mints in Iran, from year 35 (assume Yazdgird era, so 46 AH / 666 CE) onwards, sometimes with addition words in Arabic and Persian.

Location

Not known. Images of the coin are from the Arab-Sasanian (Or Early Muslim) Coinage. Similar coins are also found in the British Museum, London.
