Name

Papyrus 78 (P.Oxy. 2684), P78

Date

3rd / 4th Century CE.

Provenance

Oxyrhynchus, Egypt.

Size

About 10.6 cm. x 2.9 cm.

One double leaf from a papyrus codex. The fold clearly shows.

Contents

Jude 4-5, 7-8.

The papyrus stands some way from normal text books. The format is eccentric, the spelling vulgar, the script and layout amateurish. Most probably this is from an amulet.

Textual Character

This papyrus offers an eccentric text: two unique and three rare readings in four verses, and all of them in disagreement with the earliest witness.

Writing

The words are written with a leisurely half-cursive hand.

Location

Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, United Kingdom.
