Shawwāl, 93 AH / 711 CE.

Size & Script

25 cm x 47 cm. Written in kufic script.

Contents

The translation of the inscription is:

  1. God! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living,
  2. the One who sustains and protects all that exists. And this was inscribed by ʿAli bin ʿAbd
  3. Allāh in Shawwāl in the year
  4. ninety three.

Comments

The inscription contains the first line of the Throne Verse (Ayat al-Kursi), Qur'an 2:255. The Throne Verse is also seen in various inscriptions in Jabal Usays (see the ref.).
